Meet Larson

Every hero needs a foil, and in Tomb Raider: Legacy of Atlantis, few are as memorable as Larson. The hired gun with the swagger returns, brought to life by Bradley Snedeker, and he is as charming as he is dangerous.

The Swagger

“Bradley brings the swagger,” says Jeff Adams, Experience Director at Crystal Dynamics. “When he comes in, he owns the room, he sits wide, and he definitely makes his presence known. It’s really fun to see how both Bradley and Alix play off each other. We get the chemistry, and we think people are going to feel that too when they see it on screen.”

That presence is rooted in a very specific energy. “He just nails the gruffness and that gritty feeling,” says Brendon Bengston at Crystal Dynamics.

That grounded, gritty quality shaped how the character was built. “We wanted him to be kind of gruff and down to earth and gritty,” Bengston says. “He’s sitting next to Lara or talking with Lara, and he’s got this rough quality. We build the shapes and color schemes on top of what that feeling is.”

One of Natla’s Own

Larson is a mercenary in Natla’s employ, and the first face Lara meets on her hunt for the scion. “Larson is one of the many antagonists that Lara has encountered in her journeys,” says Raul Siqueira, Game Director at Crystal Dynamics. “He’s more of a brute. He’s a mercenary who works for Natla, and he’s in charge of contacting Lara so she can start her search for the scion.”

There is, of course, a catch. “Larson and Natla have an ulterior motive, and they mean to betray Lara Croft,” Siqueira says. “Which, one should know, is a terrible idea.” He works alongside a partner, too. “Pierre Dupont is Larson’s partner in crime, and they are working together for Natla. Both Pierre and Larson have the opinion that they can outsmart Lara. That doesn’t really work out for them.”

Larson even leaves Lara a parting gift. “Every game gets better when you get a shotgun,” Siqueira says. “It is Larson’s shotgun. When you defeat him, you get a new weapon.” It is a fitting end for a man who never quite understood who he was up against.

That blend of muscle and misplaced confidence makes Larson a perfect early foil, dangerous enough to take seriously, and human enough to enjoy.

The Chemistry

For Alix Wilton Regan, who plays Lara Croft, the relationship between the two is one of the game’s most enjoyable dynamics. “Larson thinks that he is my male counterpart, but he’s really not,” she says. “Lara has a bit of a crush on Larson, and Larson has a bit of a crush on Lara. Maybe in another universe, something might have happened there.”

She sees him as the closest thing to her equal among Natla’s forces, with one important caveat. “In this game, he is the closest thing to her equal in terms of capabilities,” she says. “He does mess up a lot, though, so maybe not.” It is a chemistry the whole cast felt. As Adrienne Wilkinson, who plays Natla, put it, there is definite chemistry there, even if Larson remains, in the end, a lovable goon.

Charming, gruff, and always a step behind the woman he underestimates, Larson is a classic Tomb Raider rogue reimagined for a new generation. Players will get to match wits with him when Tomb Raider: Legacy of Atlantis launches February 12, 2027.
